Kanapow is a hiragana-learning app for iPhone, with a companion website at kanapow.com. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use Kanapow. The short version: you don't need an account, we don't track you across apps or websites, and we don't sell your data.

Word lookups

When you look up a word, the text you enter is sent to our servers and to OpenAI, which generates the kana reading and mora breakdown that Kanapow shows you. We send only the word or phrase you type — nothing about your identity is attached to the request. Lookups are not used to build a profile of you, are not linked to your identity, and are not sold or shared for advertising.

Your history stays on your device

Your lookup history is stored locally on your device (in app storage on iPhone, and in your browser on the website). It is not uploaded to us or synced to any server. Clearing the app's data or your browser storage removes it.

What we don't collect

• No account, name, email, or password is required to use the app.
• No location, contacts, photos, or microphone access.
• No advertising identifiers and no cross-app or cross-site tracking.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers to run Kanapow:

• OpenAI processes the text of your lookups to generate readings, under its own terms and privacy policy.
• Cloudflare hosts this website and routes lookup requests. Like most internet infrastructure, it may process basic technical request data (such as IP address) to deliver and secure the service.

Children's privacy

Kanapow is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Security

Requests between the app, our servers, and our providers are sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS).

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Kanapow after a change means you accept the updated policy.
